Bienvenido a Mallorca

A gentle sea breeze, a sangria in hand and I find myself back in Europe once again.

More specifically on an island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea that if you zoom out on a map is just a hop away from Africa. Oh what a delight it is to be back buying fresh fruits at local markets and paying 2 euros for water. Mallorca holds my heart in its hands and I've hardly been here a week!

After graduating from Ohio State in May and spending the summer teaching yoga and reading voraciously it was time to start my real job teaching English to grammar school kids (On a Spanish island). Who am I kidding? I am living a Disney princess origin story.

Less than 24 hours before flying out to this paradise on Earth I received admission to law school at Belmont University in Nashville. Some days the pages of life flip faster than others.

Mallorca itself, aside from I'm convinced being home to mermaids, is part of Spain and is the largest of the Balearic islands off the coast of Barcelona. Palma is the main city and is 40 mins from Ibiza by plane. The island has a fascinating tumultuous history since Roman (and even Neolithic) times.

Spaniards here speak Spanish and the regional language Catalan which sounds like a slurred, italicized blend of Spanish and French.

The cherry on top of this already decadent sundae is that my best friend from college, Hannah, is also joining me on this adventure and working at a school 7 miles up the coast from me.

The school I will teach at is in a sun washed beach town called Can Picafort on the North side of the island.

So that’s my story, I can hardly wait to share the latest twists and turns as I settle into Island life and embark on this wildly new chapter.

Hasta pronto!
